● Innovative formulations significantly improve performance for automotive sensors, connectors and other sensitive applications

DuPont Transportation & Materials will unveil a new line of Crastin® at the upcoming K 2022 in Düsseldorf, Germany, October 19-26
PBT high laser transmittance solution. This family of solutions enables automotive component manufacturers to accelerate production and improve the performance of connectors, sensors, ADAS systems and other sensitive electrical components.

“DuPont for new range of Crastin®
PBT laser welding solutions offer a comprehensive product portfolio and are already commercialized. These solutions address the industry’s need to optimize material properties to speed up laser welding while greatly improving hydrolysis resistance and dimensional stability. ” said Mr. Qingshu Zeng, Commercial Director of the Asia-Pacific Automotive Business of DuPont Transportation and Materials Division.

Laser welding is the joining technology of choice for a wide range of sensitive and miniature applications in the automotive and electronics industries. The process eliminates the need to heat or vibrate components, helping to prevent damage to delicate internal components. At the same time, laser welding does not damage the surface of the part and ensures the durability of the bond. Furthermore, laser welding equipment has advanced to allow very short process cycles.

Three new Crastin® solutions provide manufacturers with varying degrees of laser transmittance, low warpage, and the flexibility to choose between hydrolysis and chemical resistance. For example, the laser transmittance of one of the new grades has increased by more than 200% over the industry benchmark, which ensures excellent bonding with fast cycle times. Another grade offers significantly improved hydrolysis and chemical resistance while providing excellent laser transmittance. The third new solution combines excellent low warpage performance with excellent laser transmittance and is ideal for housings for sensors and electronic components that require high dimensional stability. In addition, this solution has the necessary hydrolysis resistance.

“Until now, conventional laser welding solutions lacked good resistance to hydrolysis,”
Xingwang Wang, Director of Application Development and Technology, Asia Pacific, DuPont Transportation & Materials, said, “Our new solution can simultaneously improve laser transmittance and hydrolysis resistance among many other properties. For our customers, these advantages will create great value in its manufacturing and product performance.”

Like DuPont™ Zytel® polyamide resin laser welding solutions, these new Crastin®
PBT laser welding solutions also provide customers with efficient forming and joining solutions in a range of applications.
